The first form "Siu Nim Tao" translated freely as 'small idea' is actually the great idea behind the Ving Tsun system. This form contains all basic movements from the system and is therefore also seen as the Ving Tsun alphabet. First, you must be able to spell the letters to make words. Then words to make sentences and to write a poem you must be able to make sentences first.

Frequently, during training, elements of this form are referred to so that you can understand the greater concepts while you train this form.
